A total of 125 PACs obtained from the RGP Japan and 118 BACs obtained from CUGI, USA is being maintained in our laboratory as well as the DUSC.  Fifty-five of these PACs and 65 of the BACs belong to the chromosome region allocated to the NRCPB (56.9 cM - 83.9 cM).  One PAC clone (P041D-D9) and a 11 BAC clones have already been sequenced to more than 10X coverage required for the phase 2 sequence release.  These two clones cover 1.8 Mb of the chromosome region. At present a lot of effort is going in the sub-cloning activity, as it is very labor intensive. Dr. T.R Sharma, Dr. K. Gaikwad and Dr. N. K. Singh and most of the research associates and lab technicians are working more closely on this aspect of the project.  A total number of 7453 clones of 2 kb and 5 kb inserts have been made from 5 different PAC/BACs of our region . Out of these DNA has been isolated from 4938 clones and sequencing is complete for 3648 clones giving a total sequence read out of more than 3648000 bp.
